FAMILY CAT
Cat slinks to the sun
out of cool shrubbery,
languids his way
across grass whisky-brown,
flops and espaliers himself
on courtyard pavers,
his legs furry sticks
exciting the geometry
of angles and curves
into new symbols.
He opens his mouth,
pink satin-lined purse
of black velvet,
then shuts tight
snapped on a fly.
One yellow eye
opens, smoulders,
glazes to glass,
eyelid droops
and the curtain falls…
sleep.
